About Me

IMG_8096 (2).JPG

Having studied piano for 12 years along with AMEB examinations and 4 years in the Sydney Conservatorium, Sharon has developed and explored various technical skills as a pianist.

Additionally, she is equipped with current music pedagogies as she has completed her Bachelor of Music Education with a focus on piano performance, now completed with first-class Honours. Her honours project, "The Impact of Parental Involvement on Piano Learning in Culturally Diverse Communities", investigates ways for piano teachers to accommodate for piano students and parents from non-English speaking backgrounds.

Sharon aims to focus on her student's interests in piano and strongly encourages independent learning as early as 7-8 years old. She does this by providing explicit instructions during her piano lessons on how to practice a piece on the piano which teaches students to be more goal-orientated rather than focusing on how long their practice sessions should be.

Overall, Sharon's philosophy on learning piano is that students must explicitly learn how to practice piano through gentle and encouraging instructions. Practising piano must not depend on how long each session is, but rather on how and what the student practices.
